The house is getting it's clothes on

Well after some feverish activity (well I think it's been pretty fast!), the house has been painted!

It's a little difficult to appreciate the actual colour from the pictures, but it is in fact a pale grey, with a darker tone of grey as the highlight - classic we hope! The soffits are bright white to match the windows. Very pleased that the windows blend into the house now - its starting to look really good.

No finials yet...

Roof is basically complete now - though apparently there is still some minor work to be completed. Some of the flashings are not yet finished, but it looks like its nearly done.

And the most exciting bit - the gibbing and plastering has been finished in the pavilion at the back! The skylights look absolutely fantastic! The sunlight just floods in through the skylights and fills the room up with light - it really does make a huge difference to the room.

I think it will look even better once it's painted!

  1. Wow, did it take you absolutely forever to pick the colours? I am still deciding... and keep changing my mind. Ray keeps insisting that everything looks like 'aubergine' but it's not true.

  2. It did take AGES to pick the colours! Quite some time ago I came up with the idea of doing it a pale grey with white corner boards, but we could not find the right shade of grey - all were too blue. Then Matthew saw this house in Petone that was painted in the two tones of grey, so we went back to Resene and got MORE testpots - and came up with what you can now see!

Just need to sort the interior colours now...

  3. Yeah I've just been looking at samples. And perving at other houses in the neighbourhood. It's all a bit too hard!

  4. I think that looking at other similar style houses is the best way of getting ideas of what sorts of colour combinations you like, then get samples to brush out. Well, you can actually paint them on the house to see what they look like. We weren't allowed to - more undercoats to be done apparently... don't look at paint brushouts on the horizontal - always look at them as they would appear on the house!
